Wooster is just 15 miles east of where John Shinabarger farmed in Mohican Twp. His sons farmed even closer to Michael’s homestead.

Richland Co. OH Marriages list several Shenneberger marriages. These reflect a mixture of Michael Shanabarger children.370

Lived in PA Dutch country, moved from Washington Co. MD to Richland Co. OH, farmed near Lucas, Richland Co. OH where he died. Donated land for the Mr. Zion Church and Cemetery. Also gave land for the Shanabarger School #1.370

Mount Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church est. soon after 1812 by Ridenour, “It is believed the first organization was effected, and first meetings held in the house of Michael Shinnebarger...first members were Michael Shinnebarger and wife, Michael Culler, Jacob Koogle, Adam Wininger and wife, Gerhart Sheets...John Ernsberger, Henry Smith, the Messrs. Keifers....”389

“His son-in-law (Shuh) was first minister of Mr. Zion church which Michael donated to land for the church and a school. The Shanabarger home was also used as a stockade for the settlers one winter during an indian uprising. Tradition in the family states that Johnny Appleseed Chapmen helped organize the church.”390

Executors of the Will were John and Jacob Shanabarger.370
Microfilm records of Mt. Zion gives death at 75-4-5, thus birth date of 1768.

Shanabarger School was still standing as private residence in 1965. Had name on the roof. Church is 2 miles east of Lucas at the junction of King and Mt. Zion Roads. Before church was built the congregation met in the Shanabarger home.370

Much of the research on this Shanabarger line is based on the research of Marjorie Mae Shanabarger Carb correspondence to Vera Bunyard beginning in 1965.370
