Anthony ‘Tony’ Serdar, 95, formerly of Waukegan passed away on March 19, 2017 in St. Augustine, Florida. Born June 4, 1921, in Croatia, to Joseph and Marija (Perpich) Serdar.
During WWII, Tony served in the US Navy. While serving his country, he was taken as a prisoner of war on Wake Island and held for four years. On July 28, 1946 he married Dorothy (nee Martin) in Waukegan. He worked at North Chicago Lumber for 18 years. He went on to work for the Teamsters Local 301 as a Business Representative until he retired in 1988. Tony served as an Alderman for the City of Waukegan’s 2nd ward from 1971-1979. He was a Lake County Board Member representing the 2nd district from 1980-1988. He was a was member of the VFW.
He is survived by his four children Joanne Serdar of Cincinnati, OH, Joseph (Laura) Serdar of St. Augustine, FL, Anthony (Joanne) Serdar of Spring Grove, IL, and Dorothy Lynn Serdar of San Liandro, CA; Seven Grandchildren Jason, Anthony Jr., Matthew, Payton, Tristen, Savanna and Tyler. His brother Petar Serdar, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, his daughter Mary Serdar, his parents, a sister, and two brothers.
Military Honors took place in St. Augustine, Flordia. Interment to be held privately at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville, IL.20
