80, of Phoenix passed on August 18, 2011. Al was born and raised in Waterloo, Iowa where he graduated from Saint Mary's High School in 1949. After serving in the US Army during the Korean War, Al graduated from the University of Iowa in 1957, the same year his first child, Steven, was born. Al's professional career included employment with the Illinois Central Railroad and Armour Food Company. After retiring Al volunteered for many years at the Phoenix Police Department and was very active in his neighborhood Blockwatch program. Al had a life-long love of baseball and was a devoted Arizona Diamondback fan. He loved his wife of 55 years, Corine, and all his family members. He will be greatly missed. Al was preceded in death by his parents, Steven and Mary, and sister Diana (Schaeffer). He is survived by his Corine (Kregel), children Steven (Angie), Matthew (Joy), Jane, Nancy (Paul), John (Stephanie), nine grand children, two great grand children, brother Philip and sister Mary Francis (Barth) and many nieces & nephews. A visitation will be held at West Resthaven Funeral Home 6450 W Northern Ave Glendale AZ 85301 on Sunday August 21, 2011 from 5-7pm with a scripture service at 6pm. A Mass will be held at St Raphael's Catholic Church 5525 W Acoma Glendale AZ 85306 on Monday at 10:30am with interment at 2pm at the National Memorial Cemetery of AZ 23029 N Cave Creek Rd Phoenix AZ 85020.
