Samuel was the son of Michael and Isabella Wilkin's Kightlinger. He married Nancy Proper May 13,1841. He and Nancy had 13 children.
Samuel was killed while driving his horse and buggy home one dark evening. His buggy went off a bridge causing his horse to topple on top of him. His body was found the following morning. There was said to be at least 1,000 people in attendance at his funeral.
