Another Old Landmark Gone:
Miss Elizabeth Blagg, familiarly known as "Aunt Bettie" died after a brief illness of paralysis, June 25, 1903 at the advanced age of 91 year, 5 months & 20 days. Her parents were John & Mary Blagg, she being the second child in a family of ten. Two of whom survive her, Mr. James Blagg who lives on the old home place near here & with whom she made her home & Mrs. Samuel Wilson of Upshur Co., W.Va.
Although her mind had been somewhat impaired for a year or two prior to her death, yet she enjoyed good health & was able to walk about until the fatal stroke came two days before her death....
She was perhaps the oldest Methodist living in the county. She gave
her heart to God Nov. 10. 1828 at a meeting held in what was then
called the Synagogue near where Mr. J.B. Wilson lives. She heard Rev. Jared Morgan a Methodist minister of considerable note, preach the first sermon that was ever preached in this community. How rapidly our old people are slipping away from us Two years ago our community could boast of more old people, perhaps, than any other in the county, but they are going...Funeral services were conducted by Rev. M.P. Weikle at her late residence. After which her body was laid to net in the family burying ground.
