THE DESCENDANTS OF REINIElt VAN SYCKEL.

Aaron Van Syckel, the seventh child of Mercy and Reinier
the Ill., was born in Hunterdon Co., N. J., July 8, 1764, and was married
in the same county (about 1783) to CATHARINE OPdyke
(who was probably the daughter of Hon. George Opdyke, who was at
one time Mayor of New York City, and whose great-grandfather Joshua
Opdyke, purchased several hundred acres of land of the heirs of William
Biles), by whom he had eight children;
I. John, born Nov. 12, 1786
II. Elijah, born Aug. 16, 1788;
III. Daniel, born Nov. 2, 1790;
IV. Aaron, born May 27, 1793
V. Mercy, born April 29, 1796, who married John Garrison, and died Dec. 20, 1850;
VI. William, born Oct. 22, 1798;
VII. Alice, born May 3, 1803, who married Henry Temper
had two children, Relia and Kate, and.died June 26, 1871; and

VIII. Fanny,* born Nov. 27, 1805, who married Charles G. Wilson, son of
Joseph Wilson, by whom she had three children-Joseph H; Catherine,
who died young; and William V. S.-and now (ISM) resides at Somerville, N. J

All of Aaron's children were born in Hunterdon Co., NJ
He was High- Sheriff of Hunterdon County. He was a farmer by occupation; he also kept a hotel and a store; he owned a large
amount of real estate, and was considered the wealthiest man in the neighborhood.
He died in Hunterdon Co., N. J., Nov. S, 1636. His wife Catherine
(who was born August 11, 1762), survived him nearly 13 years, and died September 9, 1851
