Jonas was born in Upper Milford Township on November 12, 1839 to David and Sarah (Hiestand) Musselman. He was a preacher with the Mennonite Brethren in Christ Church (now Bible Fellowship) and died of dropsy in the parsonage at Coopersburg. Three of his sons became preachers, Allen, Harvey and William. Jonas married Lucy Ann Brunner on October 29, 1859, who became an assistant minister for a time after the death of Jonas.20
