NameJoseph PAXTON , M
Birth1726
Death1755, Rockbridge County, Virginia
FatherJohn PAXTON , M (ca1692-ca1746)
MotherElizabeth ALEXANDER , F (ca1695-<1756)
Misc. Notes
One of five brothers that came, about 1747, from Lancaster County PA to the Borden Grant, now Rockbridge Co. and settled on North River.

Will is only record he left. Not dated but probated 19 Nov 1755.

“Joseph Paxton, of the County of Augusta…all the effects that I have be divided between my two brothers, Samuel and William…they only allowing my mother a good living out of it…and I allow my sister’s two children…desire my brother John Paxton to be one of my executors and my cousin Thomas Paxton the other….” Witnesses were James EAKIN and Joseph Paxton.

Paxton Book points out that thus the Will establishes
1) there was another Joseph Paxton who could be no other than the son of South River Thomas Paxton who died in 1762.
2) James Eakin is probably the husband the daughter of same South River Thomas Paxton.
3) he makes his cousin, Thomas Paxton, son of South Rover Thomas, his executor.
Thus inferred that Thomas Paxton of South River who died in 1762, is the UNCLE of the 5 Paxton brothers: John, Thomas, Joseph, Samuel and William
4) the widow (his mother Elizabeth Alexander) was living in Nov 1755 and it is inferred she died a few months later because Joseph charges Samuel with her support yet Samuel, who makes out his will a few months later, disposes of the plantation. It is presumed the widow thus died in 1756
5) the widowed mother left a daughter in PA; and she had at least two children
6) the mention of paying in “Pennsylvania money” suggest that Joseph and his mother had lately left that state. It also appears the widow was probably living with Joseph
