Misc. Notes
Deed for land on South River from Joseph Paxton and wife Nancy to Samuel Paxton dated 3 Jan 1803 for 1/7 interest in land, subject to widow’s dower. Joseph “being one of the seven legitimate heirs of Thomas Paxton deceased”
However there is more Josephs -
PAXTON BOOK ARGUES that there was a son Joseph who is the one with the 1803 Deed and also the Joseph of Kanawha Co. who writes a letter to to Alexander 11 Jun 1827
He writes
Alexander “death of brother
William” “sell your farm and come out here you could purchase much better land with half the money” and he would help him move to a much better neighborhood. Ask mother-in-law what sort of neighbors we have “Nancy’s family are well” and “
Archibald has done very well and the negroes have done better than I expected at first’ he administered on brother William’s estate “and I wish you were here to relieve me of some of the trouble. You must give my love to
sisters and to
old mother and receive the like for yourself”. Joseph Paxton.

Paxton argues that this Joseph was not son of Thomas as he would have been over 90 years old; Joseph is NOT named in Will when his father Thomas died in 1762; Joseph was not son of Thomas or Samuel. He feels there were 2 Josephs, father and son. The former had the daughter Jane who md McVeigh.
