Mr. Edward HeimMr. Edward Melvin Heim, 78, of 1 W. Moser Road, Thurmont, died Thursday, April 22, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va., after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Marie Catherine Moser Heim. They were married for 52 years.
Born Nov. 1, 1920, in New London, he was a son of the late Charles Edward Sr. and Stella Arvesta Castle Heim.
Mr. Heim was a member of Locust Grove Church of the Brethren, near Mount Airy.
He had served in the U.S. Army in Germany.
He was a member of Glenn W. Eyler American Legion Post, Woodsboro.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Kay M. Smith and husband Steve of Frederick, and Grace L. Lepore and husband Danny of Imperial, Pa.; three sons, David M. Heim and wife Linda and Raymond L. Heim, all of Frederick, and Kenneth E. Heim and wife Bonnie of Collierville, Tenn.; two sisters, Elizabeth Stull and Helen Haky, both of Frederick; one brother, Charles E. Heims Jr. of Thurmont; one half brother, Melvin E. Heim of Frederick; one half sister, Pauline Hesterberg of Bel Air; five stepbrothers and stepsisters; eight grandchildren, Connie, Mark, Michael, Christina and Matthew Helm, Stephanie Healey, and Christopher and Jessica Lapore; and one great-grandson, Brandon Healey.
Mr. Heim was preceded in death by one infant daughter; six sisters, Klora Eicholtz, Lillie Wilcom, Margaret Myers, Evelyn Ramsburg, Dorothy Miller and Glenna Stup; and five stepbrothers and stepsisters.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Road, Libertytown.
Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at the funeral home. The Rev. J. Donald Plank, retired Brethren pastor, and the Rev. Jerry Cline, pastor of Libertytown United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Locust Grove Church of the Brethren, 13356 Glissans Mill Road, Mount Airy, Md. 21771; or to Libertytown United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 337, Libertytown, Md. 21762.
