…Mrs. Walters is a daughter of Jacob and Susanna(Shaffer) Burkholder, both of whom were born in Pennsylvania…. The Shaffer’s were also Pennsylvanians and were well known and highly respected people in the section in which they resided.
…His wife’s (Susanna Shaffer) birth occurred two years later than his own. She survives him and is a resident of Mexico, Miami Co., Ind. Their union resulted in the birth of ten children, eight of whom are living: William T. is a resident of Missouri and is a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church, Sarah C. is the wife of Steven De Haven of Wisconsin, Mary E. became the wife of Joseph Bennett who was killed on the Wabash Railroad, after which she married Emery Poole; Lucinda A. is the wife of the Rev Joseph Bechtal of the United Brethren Church of Fulton, Ind., Jeremiah is a school teacher of Denver, Ind., and justice of the peace of his township; Jacob C. died at the age of thirteen years; Rebecca is the wife of John See; Henrietta (Mrs. Walters); Margaret J. died at the age of two months; and John who resided in Denver, Ind., and is successfully engaged in teaching school
