ALVIN A. LENON born 7 Aug. 1843 (probably 1846) in Carroll
County, Indiana,. married 16 Aug. 1860 in Cass County, Indiana
to Catherine Spangler born 31 Aug. 1841 in Buffalo County,
Ohio to George and Julia Spangler. Alvin Lenon died 9
March 1889 in Salem, Oregon and is buried at the Odd Fellows
Cemetery. Catherine Lemon died 26 March 1933 in Portland,
Oregon, and is buried at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Salem,
Oregon. Alvin Lemon's son, Charles Edwin Lemon, tells the
following story of Alvin Lenon and his family:
My father Alvin Lenon, was born August 7, 1843 in Carroll County, Indiana. He was, was of Scotch-Irish descent, his forefathers having come from Scotland and settled near Londonderry in Northern Ireland somewhere about 1645. I do not know when my father’s parents came to America. I was told that they spoke English with a slight accent of Irish-Scotch. The following is copied from an unsigned and unfinished “History of the Lenon Family” dated Dec. 23, 1920:
“Sometime in the 18th century (the exact date not known)
John Lenon was born on a farm near near what is now Gettyburg, Pennsylvania and in that state he grew to manhood and was married. To this union 8 children were born:
Lewis, Dan, John, George S. (my grandfather, Levi, Robert, Jane and Louisa. I don't know at what time he removed to Ohio with his family but it ws on a farm near Troy, Ohio in June 1818 that
my grandfather was born. They moved inlater years to Indiana, Entering government land west of Camden on Paint Creek.
