Joe Albert Horn, 90, of Boyden, died on Saturday, April 29, at Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon. Services will be at United Presbyterian Church in Boyden, today, Tuesday. Interment is at Sheridan Township Cemetery in Boyden.
Joe Horn was born to Joseph Wesley and Katie (Gritters) Horn on August 22, 1904, in Boyden. He attended country school near Boyden. He married Gertrude Scholten on December 16, 1926, in Boyden. The couple farmed near Boyden until retirement. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Boyden where he served as an elder for many years. He was also on the Sioux County board of review for 12 years.
Horn was a member and also served as chairman of the board of both the Farmers Co-op Association and the Farmers Co-op Creamery, both in Boyden, as well as a charter member of the Co-op Burial Association in Sioux Center. Horn raised and showed Belgian horses and loved nature.
Survivors include five children and their spouses: Joyce, Lois, Marvin, Dwight, Mildred and Bonnie; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Delia, Marie and Minnie; and a sister-in-law, Mattie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one grandson, one great-granddaughter, eight sisters and four brothers.
