Misc. Notes
Daniel Murdock came into Granville OH area aboud 1810,
May have first settled in the Donation Tract of 1792 just south of Licking
“He came into Ohio, first to Granville, about 1810ish. For early children by first wife, I have one strong contender, a Dan Jr. (reported 1815/16 marriage in Granville Ohio) and two others--David based on proximity to Eunice Baird in Mohican Twp. and Samuel who may have come to Ohio but died in NY but connects to me by DNA). Of special note, my direct ancestor, Alva, son of Dan W. and Mehitable Crofoot Murdock, b1804 in NY state, was sent back to New York state after his father's death 1817/1818, married there Eliza Prouty in 1826 (many Proutys lived in Granville, Washington, NY), had at least one daughter there, and returned to Ohio after 1828. In 1830, Alva is living next door to James S. Shinabarger and his wife Elizabeth, a sister of Alva's, Perry Twp. Wayne Co., Ohio.” (Jean Mulhern)Ohio Wills and Probate Records 1786-1998

From
Jean Mulhern May 2020: I have the probate record for who was appointed guardian of Dan and Mehitable's four minor children: Aaron Beard was the children's uncle by marriage to Eunice Murdick, sister of Dan. In those days, guardian did not mean the person would rear the children day to day, but rather the person who would watch over the financial interests of the children. I believe the children stayed with Mehitable. Also, note the date was just before her marriage to John Shinabarger. To me that means that although Dan Murdick the father had died in late 1818, the need to clear up guardianship was only needed when Mehitable contemplated remarriage and needed or was required to protect Dan's children's interests. Aaron Beard was still managing Dan's estate in 1823. Here is the transcription viewed online in FamilySearch:

Murick, Alva M-133 (In 1820 Alva would have been 16 years old).
In this case Alva must have been the only name the person who made the card for later
indexing. M-133 is the probate court record packet. This record would be in LDS
microfilm. This book does not record the film numbers because there was no way to
know at the time the card was made what the film number would be.
Copies of this series of microfilm are in the Wayne County Library.
