Some researches specuated Mehetable was a Murdick or Murdock.648 One son married a Murdock and James Huff (referred to in John’s Will as a son-in-law) marries a Murdock. This has proven to be true but Mehetable was first married to Daniel W Murdock before marrying John Shinabarger in 1820.

1849 - Mehetable died 2 Nov 1849 and is buried in the Attica Venice Township Joint Cemetery in Attica, Seneca Co., OH. It is unknown why she was in Attica at that time and if other relatives lived there. One theory is her children had all moved from Wayne County except James and Joseph. There was a large population of Germans in Seneca County, possibly Shenberger or Shinaberry surnames.

…….1833-1840 Ebenezer nd George Metcalf 1808 built a steam sawmill in Attica. It burned in 1840. In 1850 Ebenezer Metcalf elected member board of education. Buried Omar Cemetery with other Metcalfs

Joseph is thought to have left his farm in Wayne Co. in 1849 and appeared in Porter Co., Indiana by 1850. Could Mehetable have been traveling to Indiana with Joseph and died in transit? At this time, it is unknown why Mehetable was in Attica or if she knew any people who resided there. Her children were not in this direction but in southern part of IN

“Mehetable's stone is not in good shape as you can see from the black growth on it. I cleaned off as much as I could to see the lettering. It shows her name and death date and husbands name at bottom. This stone is also not where the cemetery book has it listed in Row K-8 grave 1. It's actually in Row 7, grave 3. Stone could have been moved.” Redrider65 who took cemetery photo

My DNA results with Thrulines indicates that I am related to Dan's son Samuel from a marriage prior to Mehitable as well as to a Crofoot uncle of Mehitable's (both men of New York state). Jean Mulhern

Sylvester Crofoot Murdock was the last son born to Dan W. Murdock and Mehitable "Crofoot" (now confirmed in DNA links to me). He reported in 1886 for the 1887 pub. Kosciusko County, Indiana Biographical and Historical Record that they were his parents and that his father died in 1817/8 and his mother died in Sept. 1849.
Sylvester Crofoot Murdick - Facts Family Tree

she is not listed in the 1850 Census Mortality Schedule for Seneca County, which she should have been had she been a resident.  Thus, I think she died and/or was buried in transit.

Mehetable was involved in the settling of her first husband's estate in Richland County, Ohio (next county near Mohican Twp., Wayne/Ashland County). He died about 1818. Sylvester says she then moved to Wayne County (where I contend she had married John Shinabarger whose first wife had died earlier).  I can find no further reference to Mehetable/Mehitable "Murdock" after 1818.  Yet Sylvester says she lived on until 1849.  (BTW: in the Kosciusko history, page 562, he mentions Rutland County.  He confused Rutland County, Vermont where his Murdock ancestors came from - and the Crofoots - with Richland County, Ohio, where he actually moved from Licking County with his family and where his father died in 1818.)

Died 1811 - Mehetable Murdick. From death records of the minutes of the Presbyterian Church of Granville OH. page
176.
Could this be Mehetable Shinabarger relation? Granville is about 30 miles south of Mt. Vernon OH.
29 June 1813 - death of Sylvester Murdick. How is older Sylvester related who moves to Kosciusko Co.

Aug 8, 1819 - Civil - John C. Bilkinson vs. Daniel Murdock and Mehitable Murdock, that a letter of administration was issued to the Defendants to administer the estate of Den Murdock, deceased, that they have neglected their duties to provide an inventory of the debts and chattels of the estate, Plantiff asks for court to appoing new administrators. In walking Attica Cemetery I find that Mahetable is buried in what is the “Old Section” or SE corner of the original cemetery (referred to as Potters Field) and many stones are broken and some may have been moved. I am not sure Mahetable’s stone is in the original row but probably is in the original area. There is much confusion about rows 7-8-9. There does not appear to be anyone around her that is related. However, living in the area at the time are MANY familiar names: Metcalf (George and Ebenezer there by 1830s and had sawmill, which burned in 1840). Files on cemetery are in folder on Attica Cemetery and a match may eventualy occur. Meanwhile, it remains a mystery why Mehetable was in Attica at the time of her death. In 1833 only 100 people lived here. 1874 Metcalf ran a salon and boarding house. Gilbert and father had an inn just north of the tracks opposite the depot. Cemetery is on other side of the tracks. PB
