1871 Sophiasburgh, Prince Edward, Ontario - Mrs. Miller is a Widow age 80 Germany?, in large household of ALEXANDER DUGAN 60 Irish born Ireland; Agnes 46 Scotch born Ontario; William 28, James 26, George 25, Mary Ellen 24, Amanda 22, Alexander 20, Hugh 17, Ogle Robert 16, Charlotte 13, Thomas Harvey 12, Catherine 10, John 8, Sarah Emily 4, all born Ontario and Irish origins - Mrs Miller born Ontario but German origin; and Thomas MILLER 36 born Ontario and Scotch; Agnes Hodgens 60 born Ontario and Scotch.
By the death of Mrs. Ann Millar, on the lake shore, Huron Township at the ripe old age of 92, which occurred on this 30th ult (?-couldn't make out the "ult"). one of the
earliest emigrants to Canada has passed away. This lady whose maiden name was Blauvelt, was born in the state of New Jersey, near what is now Jersey City, in the
year 1790. Her father was one of that patriotic band known as U.E. Loyalists, who found themselves unable t live under the government of those they called rebels, and
so in the year 1793 the family took their way through trackless forests to the British side of the Great Lakes, settling in Prince Edward County, not far from Belleville,
when there was only one house in that area. She was married in 1811 to Nicholas Westerfelt, the results of the union being two children, but was left a widow four
years afterwards.
She married a second time to Hugh Millar, who died in 1869, and the issue of this marriage was six children. After living for many years at Big Island,
eight miles from Belleville, her son-in-law, Mr. Thomas Duggan, moved to Huron Township in 1871, she coming with the family. She was consistent member of the Presbyterian
church for forty years., but for the last twelve years was confined to the house.
1881 Census for Canada, Ontario - Ann Miller 91 with Thomas Miller 46 and Alexander Duggan 76 Ireland , Agnes Duggan 56, Alexander 30, Ogle R 27, Hugh 26, Charlotte 23, Thomas H 21, Catharine 19, John 16, Sarah E Duggan 14. AGNES must be her daughter and Alexander her husband. All children born in Ontario, Ann born in US
